Green zones in Germany
Please note that the city of Essen has a so-called green zone, which may be used only by vehicles with special environmental badges. Since January 2013 vehicles with a red badge are not allowed to enter the green zone.

This rule also applies to foreign vehicles (40€ fine). Motorcycles are not subject to green zones.
